I’m conducting research at a university in the Netherlands, and our team has developed a potential invention in the field of drug research. We’re considering patenting it, but we’re unsure how the process works, especially regarding intellectual property and our affiliation with the university. Is it possible to patent our invention, and how do IP rights typically work in a university setting?
@BarendBouma this might be a question you could answer. Can you help Rosa?
Dear Rosa,
You described that you are working at a university in the Netherlands. The best thing you can do is (i) contact the Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) of your organization, but also (ii) take some time to learn the basics of the different routes you can take to apply for a patent. This will help you in your discussions with the KTO staff members. For a quick overview of the different routes have a look at this animation https://www.pauljanssenfuturelab.eu/toolbox/patent-routes/
Kind regards,
Marcel
